Led by Mia Moshier, Sienna Schintzius and Lillian Taylor, Alamo Heights continued its domination of District 26-5A opponents by beating McCollum in straight sets, 25-22, 25-21, 25-15, Tuesday at Harlandale ISD Special Events Center.

The trio of hitters combined for 28 kills in helping Alamo Heights (22-10, 3-0) overcome a strong challenge by McCollum (18-6, 1-1), as the Mules haven't dropped a set in District 26-5A competition in sweeping all three district opponents they has played so far.

Alamo Heights coach Sarah Holmes declared her squad followed through on what they set out to do in the match to counteract McCollum's hitters.

In a related development, "They (McCollum) played really well," Holmes mentioned. "They had some great big hitters. We did what we needed to do. We came out and took care of business in three. The girls really focused on some of the things that we talked about in our scout session this week. We really wanted to pick on certain pieces and serve receive. Serve aggressively, take care of business in serve receive and manage what we can in not giving away too a host of areas."

Moshier, a sophomore outside hitter, had 10 kills while Schintzius, the Mules' other sophomore outside hitter, and Taylor, a junior middle blocker, each had nine kills. Senior defensive specialist Ava Gaidusek boosted the Alamo Heights' service game with five aces.

Holmes noted Moshier, Schintzius and Taylor have worked hard to improve their games.

Furthermore, "They're our producers and they do a really good job of that," Holmes declared. "They find the spots, they tool off the block, they're power hitters. They have great tip shot selections. I mean they've been really working hard to be really versatile hitters and not just one-shot wonders."

Senior middle blocker Layla Gonzales led McCollum with 10 kills, while junior outside hitter Nyah Perez and senior middle blocker Brooke Romo each had nine kills, and junior Aubrielle Cano added six.

McCollum came on strong in the first set, as the Cowboys went out to a 5-1 advantage and led by as numerous as five points until Alamo Heights put together a 9-3 run to take a 19-18 lead. The Mules then took six of the next 10 points to close out the set at 25-22.

Additionally, the second set was a seesaw frame with eight lead changes and eight ties before Alamo Heights broke a 19-19 tie with a 6-2 run to end the set, winning 25-21.

In the third set, Gaidusek started the frame with three straight aces for Alamo Heights, sparking the Mules to a 9-3 lead to start the frame, as the closest McCollum would get was within four points.

Alamo Heights closed out the final set on a 15-10 run, with Moshier sparking the Mules with three kills during the decisive run to finish the match.Moshier remarked she and her Alamo Heights teammates did a good job of fighting back when they got behind early in the match.

It is worth noting that "We continued to just build up, I guess our confidence and like our consistency throughout the whole game," Moshier declared. "I think we came out swinging pretty good. They (McCollum) had some pretty good swings, great defense. They were really just aggressive and snappy with everything."

Moshier noted Gaidusek's serving, particularly in the final set, provided a boost for Alamo Heights.
