Apple has announced the Vision Pro 2, its second-generation mixed reality headset that introduces groundbreaking neural interface technology allowing users to control the device with their thoughts. The announcement, made at a special event at Apple Park, also revealed an 18-hour battery life — a dramatic improvement over the original model's 2-hour external battery.
Neural Control
The neural interface uses a non-invasive sensor array embedded in the headband that reads electrical signals from the motor cortex. Users can navigate menus, type text, and interact with virtual objects simply by thinking about the actions — no hand gestures or eye tracking required, though those input methods remain available.
"We believe this is the future of human-computer interaction," said Apple's CEO during the presentation. "Vision Pro 2 understands your intent before you move a muscle."
Technical Improvements
The device is 40% lighter than its predecessor, weighing just 380 grams, and features dual M4 Ultra chips that deliver real-time photorealistic rendering. The display resolution has been increased to 8K per eye, making virtual content indistinguishable from physical objects at arm's length.
Priced at $2,499 — $1,000 less than the original Vision Pro — the device is positioned as both a consumer and enterprise product. Pre-orders begin next month, with shipping expected in June.
