The Milwaukee Brewers never skip a beat despite the constant changes the team goes through every offseason. Like clockwork, the Brewers have secured another NL Central division title courtesy of a 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. With a 94-57 record following that victory, the Brewers have themselves another 90-win season, their fourth consecutive.
Milwaukee's budgetary constraints have been well-documented, and their success over the past decade or so is the epitome of how limited-market teams can remain successful despite their limitations. It helps that the Brewers organization is top-class from top to bottom, and on the big-league level, manager Pat Murphy has done a great job of maximizing the talent he has at his disposal.
In a related development, with the Brewers now having won their fourth straight division title as well, there is plenty of reason for the city of Milwaukee to celebrate. Heck, even Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez celebrated Milwaukee's success, particularly Murphy's, whom he called his favorite manager in the big leagues.
"I couldn't be happier for the Brewers and my favorite manager. They earned it," Martinez wrote on his spokesperson account on X.
Murphy makes it a point to set the tone for his team in terms of punctuality, work ethic, and accountability. His managerial style demands a lot out of his players, but it's precisely the high standards he sets that makes the Brewers the best team in MLB at the moment, at least in terms of win-loss record. But he's not just a man of high standards; he cultivates healthy relationships and leads wit hheart as well.
Furthermore, when Craig Counsell suddenly leaving his post as Brewers manager in late 2023, it was Murphy who stepped up and kept the team humming. It helps that he's been part of the team since the 2016 campaign, so he has essentially played a huge role in establishing the culture of this team.
In the end, the Brewers would want their hard work to bear fruit in the form of a World Series title. That will be their ultimate goal with October right on the horizon.
