Healthcare Under Siege

A coordinated ransomware attack has disrupted hospital information systems across three countries, affecting patient care at over 200 healthcare facilities in the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany. The attack, which began in the early hours of Monday morning, encrypted critical systems including electronic health records, diagnostic imaging platforms, and medication management systems.

Emergency rooms at several major hospitals were forced to divert patients to unaffected facilities, while surgical teams reverted to paper-based record keeping. No patient deaths have been directly attributed to the attack, but health officials warn that the disruption poses ongoing risks to patient safety.

The Attack

"This is the largest coordinated attack on healthcare infrastructure we've ever seen," said the director of a national cybersecurity agency. "The attackers exploited a previously unknown vulnerability in widely-used healthcare management software."
